Energy Transfer to join Williams Cos. in $37.7B deal

Energy Transfer Equity (NYSE: ETE) announced on Monday plans to merge with The Williams Companies (NYSE: WMB) in a deal the companies valued at about $37.7 billion, including debt. The transaction was approved by both boards of directors.

The deal will create the third largest energy franchise in North America and one of the five largest global energy companies.

The announcement follows the termination of the previously agreed merger between WMB and Williams Partners.
