Kate Middleton’s Rarely Seen Second Wedding Dress Is Having a Moment on TikTok
Hands up if you set an alarm for 4:30 a.m. on April 29, 2011, just so you could watch Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal wedding. Cool, same! But if you missed it, you probably also missed Kate’s second wedding dress. Because, yep, she had an outfit change, and honestly, dress number two was Just. As. Amazing.
As Newsweek was the first to report, Kate’s little-seen second dress is having a ~moment~ on TikTok thanks to user @AllaCorteDi, who posted footage of the duchess walking down the stairs in her second gown:
Like the dress she wore during the ceremony, Kate’s second gown was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and it featured a sweetheart neckline, a sparkly belted waist, and a cozy cardigan. And FYI, she wore the dress to a fancy reception at Buckingham Palace for 650 people, which was casually hosted by the Queen.
Burton spoke about the experience designing for Kate a few years after the wedding in an interview with T magazine (via E! Online), saying, “Some people think…that I’m afraid to speak up about the happy experience I had creating the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, but I can tell you that is nonsense. I have never been a shrinking violet or a person who is ruled by fear. I loved making the dress…and we put our hearts into it. I respect the intimate nature of that lovely project and I respect the friendships that were forged during it.…An instinctive, intelligent, imaginative young woman’s wish for a beautiful wedding dress—or any kind of dress—is the most natural thing in the world. And I was honored to pick up the challenge and always will be.”
