Artist Caley Johnson creates stunningly elaborate headpieces
With no formal training, designer Caley Johnson (who goes by the nickname Miss G) fell into the costume design business accidentally.
But that didn't keep her from creating stunning headpieces worn by the likes of Katy Perry.
The 34-year-old spent most of her 20s studying natural medicine, travelling the world and working as a birth doula. But after discovering she had a knack for creating costumes at her first Burning Man festival in 2006, everything changed.
"Being surrounded by such creativity really inspired me to explore my talents," she tells Yahoo Canada Shine. "My headdress evolution was fuelled by lots of trial and error."
She moved to San Francisco from Colorado and began her journey, working as a nanny by day and costume designer by night.
It wasn't until 2009 that Johnson took the plunge into the world of headpiece design, making her very first one to match a client's costume.
"That sparked something in me," she explains.
