The Subtle Meaning Behind Kamala Harris' Purple Power Suit At Her Concession Speech
Kamala Harris knows a thing or two about power dressing. Over the course of her campaign in the run-up to the US Presidential Election on November 5, she proved time and time again that a brilliant suit doesn't go unmissed.
On November 6, she stepped back into the public eye at Howard University following her loss against the newly-elected president, Donald Trump, delivering her concession speech with a message of resilience that was underscored by her choice in outfit. This time round Harris opted for a structured, deep purple suit.

Styled by Leslie Fremar, Harris’ choice of an aubergine strong-shouldered blazer, blouse, cravat and subtly flared trousers was as purposeful as her words. The suit’s silhouette, a style she frequently wore on the campaign trail, embodied strength, sending a clear signal that her commitment to change remained unshaken.
The purple hue was equally significant, bridging America’s two primary political colours: Democratic blue and Republican red. It was a symbolic nod to unity as she urged supporters not to lose hope. With the suit, Harris opted for minimal accessories: her usual heeled pumps, small stud earrings, a few gold bracelets, and an American flag pinned to her lapel, which mirrored the flags that framed her on stage.
In her 11-minute speech, Harris conveyed gratitude and resolve. 'The outcome is not what we wanted,' she admitted, adding 'but hear me when I say, the light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up.'
