'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Set to Gross $1 Billion USD

Despite early negativity, Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo's gamble to make The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks like it's really going to pay off. Accompanied by an aggressive marketing campaign, the film based on the iconic video game franchise has already become the highest-grossing video game film adaptation following its opening weekend.

Reports are now noting that the film has already made $678 million USD, $330 million USD internationally, and is number one at the box office in 26 counties. Although critics have delivered negative ratings for the film, audience enjoyment has helped push the theatrical release starring Chris Pratt. With no signs of slowing down, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is expected to hit the $1 billion USD gross mark in the coming weeks and is now expected to be the biggest film of 2023.
