Today marks the day that the Royal Family – as well as world leaders and many across the UK – bids farewell to Queen Elizabeth II

The events of the last week – which included a four day period of lying-in-state and several silent vigils – have all been leading up to today's funeral service, which has already attracted millions of mourners to the capital.

Given its historical importance, the funeral service – which will include a formal ceremony at Westminster Abbey, a 21-gun salute and a funeral procession through the streets of London – has been planned with precision, with plenty of input from Her Majesty before her death at the age of 96. And it's because of her input that we'll see – or rather, hear – a touching tribute to Her Majesty's late husband during today's service.

Earlier today, details of the songs and hymns that'll be sung during the funeral service were released. Amongst them is The Lord is My Shepherd, which was played at the wedding of the Queen and Prince Philip on 20 November 1947.

The hymn (which comes from the 23rd Psalm in the Bible) will offer a poignant nod to the late Duke of Edinburgh – who passed away in April 2021 at the age of 99 – and his marriage to Her Majesty, which became the very heart of the House of Windsor.

What are the words to The Lord is My Shepherd?

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want;
He makes me lie in pastures green.
He leads me by the still, still waters,
His goodness restores my soul.

And I will trust in You alone,
And I will trust in You alone,
For Your endless mercy follows me,
Your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness,
And He anoints my head with oil,
And my cup, it overflows with joy,
I feast on His pure delights.

And though I walk the darkest path,
I will not fear the evil one,
For You are with me, and Your rod and staff
Are the comfort I need to know.

When will the hymn be sung during the funeral?

The Lord is My Shepherd will be sung by all attendees at the funeral and will follow Prime Minister Liz Truss' reading of the second lesson. After the hymn, the sermon will be delivered.

Our thoughts are with all those mourning Her Majesty at this emotional time.
