Sydney Sweeney Makes a Case for Beachy Mermaid Waves in the Dead of Winter — See Photos

Sydney Sweeney is not letting the seasons dictate her style and debuting a new, very summer-appropriate hairdo right in the middle of winter. On January 11, the Euphoria star was spotted attending Leslye Headland's play Cult of Love on Broadway in New York City, sporting mermaid waves.

We are used to seeing Sweeney with her blonde hair straight or in very loose waves, so the more defined, beachy waves definitely caught our attention, especially given how long her hair has gotten. In her recent outing, Sweeney's golden blonde hair cascaded down to her ribs, with her wave pattern getting curlier towards her ends.

Though the hair was the star of the show, her clothes also did not take a backseat. Sweeney opted for a classy and stylish look by combining two shades that are often considered a fashion faux pas: navy and black.

The star wore a navy mini dress that fell right in the middle of her thighs, opting for matching sheer tights to protect herself from the cold. She added an extra layer of warmth with a black shearling-lined coat and stuck to the black color palette with pointy patent leather pumps and a satin mini bag from Givenchy.

Sweeney attended the play alongside actor Brandon Sklenar, who is set to star alongside her in the upcoming adaptation of Freida McFadden's 2022 novel The Housemaid. Speaking of The Housemaid, Sweeney was actually spotted with her new mermaid waves on the set of the film in Montclair, New Jersey, on January 6, 2025.

While we are not sure if she was in character, during that outing, Sweeney wore lace-up combat boots, a floral pattern midi dress, and an oversized bomber jacket. Previously, the star had also given fans a peek at her new 'do via an Instagram post showing off her Galaxy Z Flip6 as part of her longstanding partnership with Samsung.

Usually, we see people leaning into hairstyles like Sweeney's when the temperatures rise a little, but the actor is singlehandedly making sure mermaid waves make it onto the list of hair trends that should be on our radar months in advance, and we just have to stan a celeb who's ahead of the curve!
