"I was more nervous to be walking the catwalk in general because I've never done it before in a bathing suit," said Mara Martin.
"It's kind of like being born rich, people don't believe that you feel the same pain. It's a bias that people can't shake."
Following the lead of inclusive runway shows in the New York area, Italian blogger Laura Brioschi kick-started a body positive catwalk during Milan Fashion Week.
Dion Lee’s NYFW 2018 show only used four words to describe the line in its notes: lingerie, military, sensuality, utility. Here's why.
For designer Bibi Russell, the challenge for acid-attack survivors lies in changing peoples’ mindsets and attitudes — especially in rural Bangladesh.
The Sheguang Hu haute couture show at China Fashion Week turned some heads, especially when a model wearing a rat head strutted the runway.
Ashley Graham is one of the best known plus-size models in the industry, and she’s telling women the secret to her success: confidence. “The runway isn’t just about showing fashion, it’s about gaining confidence,” she says. Wearing denim-on-denim, Graham is the first to give her walk a go before the three women rock the catwalk themselves.

On Saturday at NYFW, design duo Eckhaus Latta sent their friends and family down the catwalk, including ready-to-burst artist Maia Ruth Lee, due to give birth next month.
DJ Steve Aoki shut down a whole block in downtown Manhattan for a runway show turned concert, and debuted some politically charged clothing for his new collection.
Breasts, corsets, and underwire are the focal points in this new fashion trend, and for all the talk of underwire and corsets, the trend is remarkably freeing.
There’s a widespread perception that models have naturally flawless skin, but one model is on a mission to debunk that image of perfection by embracing her skin, acne and all — and she’s encouraging others who struggle with skin blemishes to do the same. When Starlie Smith, or “Queen Starlie” as her Instagram fans know her, strutted the catwalk at the Dolce & Gabbana show during Milan Fashion Week last month, it wasn’t her perfectly-coiffed raven tresses that had the Internet talking. “Here’s some acne positivity,” one person commented in a Reddit thread, alongside a runway photo of Starlie where she displays less than flawless skin.
Designer Jeremy Scott’s latest collection for Moschino at Milan Fashion Week featured a purse that literally looks like a roll of toilet paper on a chain. Although it may not be our first choice for our everyday wardrobe, it certainly had audiences talking –and scratching their heads. Is it quilted? Is it two-ply? Is it fashion? The TP purse was just one of the many pieces in the Fall/Winter 2017/18 collection that took inspiration from household items and well…garbage. Like a hoarder’s paradise, there were garbage can hats, dresses that resembled plastic bags, and a bag that’s probably the mate to the sock you lost in the dryer. Scott’s tongue-in-cheek approach to fashion and accessories has quickly become his trademark, attracting colourful celebrity fans like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. While some of his designs have proved to be controversial — they’re certainly one-of-a-kind. The toilet paper bag inspired us to revisit some of the craziest Moschino handbags that have ever graced the runway. Let us know what you think by tweeting @ YahooStyleCA .
Simone Rocha made headlines at London Fashion Week over the weekend, and not just for her AW17 preview. The designer sent a diverse group of models down the runway, including 73-year-old Benedetta Barzini and 70-year-old Jan de Villeneuve. Thankfully, this isn’t the only instance of out-of-the-norm models repping a brand down the catwalk. Diversity is becoming an increasingly common theme in the fashion world.
This past week, models hit the runways in Paris for Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2017. Powerhouse brands like Chanel, Dior, Vetements, and Giorgio Armani all debuted their collections, and once again, the style and beauty looks did not disappoint. But couture has never been known for drawing inside the lines, and this season was no exception. While it’s hard to narrow down the most out-there style and beauty looks, we gave it our best shot. Take a look.
Mariah Carey is known for her extravagant sense of style. The 46-year-old pop-star is often spotted running errands in red-carpet-worthy attire. Most recently, the singer was seen in a figure-hugging bandage gown, dripping in diamonds, during a shopping trip in Beverly Hills. She isn’t the only star donning her Sunday best on any given day of the week.
Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm may not be joining the rest of their Spice Girls groupmates on their 20th anniversary “GEM” reunion tour next year (sob), but that doesn’t mean the twosome isn’t still supporting each other.
Kanye West’s New York Fashion Week show was always going to be unique - and as usual, he’s caused plenty of controversy in its run up. This year, Kanye staged his show on Roosevelt Island in the East River, and kicked off with an unconventional start at 4:49pm instead of the scheduled 3pm slot. Choreographed by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft, the piece consisted of models in underwear assembled into rows along a huge runway.
Socks and sandals made a very grandpa-esque appearance on the runway of Milan Men’s Fashion Week. The soft and strappy combo is already being labelled spring 2017’s hottest trend too (shudder)! In light of this, we took a look back at other cringeworthy men’s fashion trends that have resurfaced lately. Some exciting items have made their way down the Spring/Summer runway and if we’re taking these designer’s fashion cues then expect to see plenty of oversized coats, see-through dresses, denim on denim, bare shoulders and 90′s inspired graphic tees this season. Rihanna called and she wants her dress back! The pop star usually goes bare underneath but for the rest of us mere mortals, a crochet dress like this makes a perfect on-trend cover up at the beach! We’ve picked three neutral versions that would look totally cute with a bright coloured bathing suit underneath.
High fashion meets activewear. It’s becoming more visible on the runways and in the streets as it’s effortless and comfy but still cute. From pairing a jersey with high heels to matching a t-shirt dress with Nikes, styling activewear is limitless. We created some (reasonably priced) outfits for inspiration:
