Teddi Mellencamp hits back at cellulite shamers: 'I am proud of it'
Teddi Mellencamp has no time for body shamers.
On Tuesday, the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star took to Instagram to share a message to those who criticized her for showing off her legs — cellulite and all — in a pink tasseled mini dress at the MTV Movie Awards earlier this week.
"For anyone messaging me that I shouldn’t have worn this dress to @mtvawards because you can see my cellulite. Guess what?! I am proud of it and most of us have it," the daughter of music legend John Mellencamp penned to her 1 million followers, paired with a photo of her taken on the red carpet.
"Let’s normalize the reality," she continued. "I work hard to for my mental and physical body to feel good."
Mellencamp added: "For those messaging that the outfit looks like I am auditioning for 'DWTS' - you aren’t wrong. It does."
The 40-year-old's post was quickly met with applause from fans for speaking out against body shaming.
"Proud of you for standing up!" one Instagram user commented, while another added, "You look amazing. Most women (including myself) have cellulite. Body shaming has to stop."
"You look gorgeous in this dress!" someone else weighed in. "Don't let anybody tell you differently. Anyone who called out your cellulite is obviously very ignorant, and apparently still living in the year 2001. Times have changed. Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, textures and colours."
"You look fabulous Teddi, and the haters are going to hate no matter what," one fan pointed out.
"That’s crazy. With or without cellulite, you still look better than most of us," another added.
Another commenter sounded off: "Girl, I’m loving it! You’re so fit and healthy! It’s nice to see that even fit, active, healthy people still have cellulite! Skin has a mind of its own!"
Mellencamp has always been candid with her fans about the changes her body goes through. Back in February, following her time on "Celebrity Big Brother," the reality star opened up about gaining weight while on the show.
"Today I stepped on the scale for the first time since going away 20 days ago. Not as punishment but to see where I am after nonstop candy and cakes in @bigbrothercbs," she shared via Instagram. "I gained 10 lbs. while there."
She revealed that for her, eating clean and exercising is about more than just losing weight.
"It's not about a number on the scale but how I feel when I am eating clean and taking care of my body and mind — my anxiety decreases," she explained. "Today I am posting to hold myself accountable to making my overall health a priority again."
She added: "Even those of us who are 'fitness influencers' go through different stages in our journeys."
