The Tekken x Gentle Monster Specs Are a Knockout
Seoul-based eyewear firm Gentle Monster has designed some shades inspired by a very un-gentle monster. The inherently offensive Kazuya from fighting video game franchise – my preferred playable combat series, in case you care – Tekken.
And, boy, does this collab pack a punch.
Quite literally: pairs of the Infernos, as the sunnies are called, are packaged with a giant boxing glove inspired by those the character's been wearing for the last three decades. Metallic studs and all – a detail of the fighter's uniform that seemingly inspired the silvery surface of the frame.
As for the frame's spiky shape, and the hellish lenses and horn-like temples, they're all inspired by Devil Kazuya. [Tekken 101: Kazuya was born with the Devil Gene, which he inherited from his mother, that allows him to taken on a powerful demonic form.]
Beyond the glasses, the collaboration – which observes Tekken's 30th anniversary, and acts as a belated celebration of the release of Tekken 8 – extends to some virtual moments.
From Friday 27 September, you'll be able to create your own Tekken cover art using an AR filter over on the Gentle Monster website. And Tekken players will soon be able to unlock an in-game skin of the antagonist in which he rocks the specs.
That's plenty of ways to get into character – to awaken your inner villain – this spooky season.
The Tekken 8 x Gentle Monster collaboration launches on Saturday 28 September on gentlemonster.com. Ready player one?
