Thai Fashion Designers to Headline Group Show in New York
Four Thai designers will be showcased in “One Night in Bangkok,” a group show that will be held on Feb. 11 at the Ideal Glass Studios.
Presented by the Thai Trade Center New York, the Ministry of Commerce Thailand and the Future Treasure, the runway show is being curated by Tan Sawaddichai and will be styled by Sarunrat Panchiracharoen. This year’s projected market volume for Thai fashion e-commerce sales is $276.4 billion with most of that revenue being generated in China. The number of fashion users is expected to amount 18.1 million users by 2029. The New York event aims to broaden sales in the U.S.

Attendees will catch a sampling of looks from Vinn Patararin, Matter Makers, Merge and Victeerut. Vinn Patararin was started by the architect and designer Vinn Chokkhatiwat and the artist and designer Patararin Pongprasit.
With a master’s degree in design and contemporary technology from ENSCI, Les Ateliers in Paris, and a bachelor’s degree in architectural design from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Patararin culled his interdisciplinary skills as an intern for Iris van Herpen, among other places. A Srinakharinwirot University graduate, Pongprasit furthered her education in fashion design and couture at Studio Berçot in Paris. Before starting her own company, she interned at Azzedine Alaïa and emerging brands like Katharina Gruber. Their designs have been sported by Troye Sivan, Timothée Chalamet, and Charli XCX, among other notables.
Started in 2023, Matter Makers focuses on streetwear with bold aesthetics and graphic touches. Bordin Aphimarn, the designer behind the brand, has teamed up for collaborations with the retailer I Wanna Bangkok, PZ Today and Hello Kitty, among others. Meanwhile, Ponpavee Danmingyenvong will be showing some denim styles from Merge, an inclusive and body positive brand.
The oldest of the four companies is Vickteerut, which debuted in 2007, thanks to Aurapraphan “Pang” Sudhinaraset, who favors minimalist designs. Like some of the other participants, she has two degrees — a bachelor’s in fashion design from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, and a Masters degree in marketing communication from the University of Westminster. She started the company, while also establishing herself as a stylist.
