Talking Heads reunite for the first time in more than 20 years at TIFF
It's the bands first major milestone since 2002 when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
In a nostalgic moment at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the iconic band Talking Heads reunited for the first time in two decades.
The band gathered for the premiere of their 1984 concert documentary "Stop Making Sense," freshly revamped for its 40th anniversary.
The band's four main members, David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Cris Frantz and Jerry Harrison took the stage together, marking their first major milestone since 2002 when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre hosted the event, showcasing the film on IMAX for the very first time.
Host Spike Lee set the tone for the evening by saying, "You know I love cinema, and this is the greatest concert film ever. Can we give it up please? I’m going on record."
Talking Heads former singer David Byrne chimed in with a personal reflection.
"When I was watching this just now, I was thinking, this is why we come to the movie theatres. This is different than watching it on my laptop. This is really different," he said.
Former guitarist and keyboardist Jerry Harrison also weighed in on the film's restoration, noting the importance of adapting it for contemporary theatre experiences. "The fact that there is new technology meant we almost have a burden to adapt and to bring it up to what people can hear now in theatres."
The band's official Instagram account shared a snap from the event, captioned: "It's great to be here."
In response, fans have taken to social media to praise the band's reprisal.
"'Stop Making Sense' in IMAX: Just perfect. What a fantastic experience," a person shared on X (aka Twitter).
Another penned: "Giddy every time I remember I got to see 'Stop Making Sense.'"
"Just fills my heart to see my all-time favourite band together again and smiling. That’s enough for me," an Instagram user wrote.
Someone else added: "So iconic."
"Legends!" echoed another.
