You might be feeling a bit blue since American Idol's season finale last May marked the end of season 4 on ABC. But fear not, Idol fans: the show has been officially renewed for season 5 (the show's 20th season overall).

Prior to last year's season finale — which resulted in Chayce Beckham being crowned the champion — ABC announced that the search for the next big superstar will continue in 2022. That said, Deadline reports that show runner Trish Kinane is stepping down from her position and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick will take her place.

What does that mean for the show? Right now, it's unclear. But often when show runners are switched and/or replaced, the show will look a bit different when it returns. Curious to know what the next season of American Idol could look like? We've got key season 5 details below:

Per a press release, judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry will definitely be back for the fifth season of American Idol. Likewise, Ryan Seacrest will return as the show's host.

"Luke, Katy, Lionel and Ryan are music and industry icons that have become synonymous with Idol on ABC,” said Rob Mills, executive vice president, Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment, Walt Disney Television. "Their star power is unmatched, and their support is a gift to our contestants that have deeply benefited from their wisdom over the past four seasons — and they’re ready to do it again. As we begin a momentous season, I think it’s safe to say this dream team has officially cemented their legacy on Idol."

As excited as fans are to see American Idol vet Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke, Lionel and Katy, there is someone not coming back this season. According to Deadline, mentor Bobby Bones will not return to the singing competition this season. Bobby is leaving Idol due to scheduling conflicts with another show.
