In the heat of summer, nearly everyone loves a good beach day — even royals.
On Wednesday, Kate Middleton and husband Prince William took advantage of the warm weather and spent a day at the beach during a surprise outing together, looking ready to enjoy the season in style.
The couple took a trip to Barry Island, Wales, where they met with local business owners in the resort town to learn about how the tourism industry is slowly returning to normal following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The duo took part in some fun and games during their visit to a beachside arcade, where they tried their hand at the claw machine and ball toss before heading to a local restaurant.

Dressed for the beach day in a summery floral frock, Kate paired her sold-out Emilia Wickstead dress (which she’s previously worn on multiple occasions) with her go-to summer footwear styles: wedge espadrilles.
This isn’t the first time that Kate stepped out in her trusted pair of wedges, which she has worn several times in the past, including on an outing to the Chelsea Flower Show with her husband Prince William and The Queen in 2019.
The Castañer Carina wedges are a favourite of the Duchess, thanks to their versatile design that pairs well with both casual clothing and more formal attire.
The comfortable wedge heel and suede design of the Carina wedges have caught the eye of other members of the royal family as well, with Meghan Markle bringing a pair with her on her trip through the South Pacific last year.
Meghan’s more bohemian style is a stark contrast to Kate’s prim and polished outfits, yet both women are fans of the classic espadrille design. While in Australia, Meghan paired her Castañer heels with a Martin Grant striped maxi dress for a more laid-back and beachy feel.
It goes to show just how versatile these wedges are that they look equally chic whether they’re worn on the beach or in the English countryside, so it’s no wonder that the fashionable young royals can’t get enough of them.
You can shop the royal-approved footwear below, along with a few more affordable styles that are equally as chic for the summer.
