Nothing makes or breaks an outfit like a pair of shoes, which is why I always keep many pairs under my desk so I can have options. While I have a good mix of statement heels and booties, the one thing that’s missing is a good pair of flats. I chalk it up to being a petite woman who relies on the power of heels.
I regularly come into the office looking to take my chunky boots off and the pressure off the balls of my feet, so I’ve been on the hunt for a chic and comfortable pair of ballet flats. On the top on my list are the Everlane Day Glove shoes ($152). My manager Hilary has them in five different shades and wears them basically every day.
As much I love the versatile style options, I’m still on the fence about purchasing them online. Not only are they pricey, but orders from Everlane come with duties. I’m also a little wary of buying shoes without trying them on first. That just sounds like a mess waiting to happen, especially considering I have small and narrow feet. This is why they are staying on my wish list until I’m able to try them on in a store.
Luckily, there are other options. I recently came across a pair of basic ballet flats — pretty much a Day Glove dupe — that shoppers describe as “perfect.”
Amazon’s Essential Ballet Flats are available in 13 different shades, are designed for daily wear and offer a superior fit. Just like the Day Glove, the Essential Ballet Flats feature a casual silhouette with a round toe. The top provides some stretch and the stitch-less counter design increases comfort.
“As someone who has a hard time finding flats that fit because I need an elastic around them, these shoes were perfect!” said a five-star reviewer. “Got them for a wedding, wore them a few times to break them in and didn't get a single blister. They were really comfortable and I plan on ordering more.”
“These shoes are really nice. [Better fit] than I was expecting for the money. Great value for the price. They are [a true to fit] for size and seem to be pretty sturdy in their materials,” said another.
While these shoes have earned a 4.3-star rating, one top reviewer says they may not last very long.
“They are made OK. They will work for what I need them for, but I don’t expect them to last more than a summer for usage.”
As someone who has a very hard time finding the perfect shoe size, I typically wouldn’t rely on online reviews for sizing info. But with these $25 flats, there really isn’t much to lose.
