Why is this a good deal? 💰

Hefty power stations like this one usually come with an equally hefty price tag, but $759 (down from $1,599) is an incredible deal. Even pricier gas-powered generators pale in comparison when you consider this model's clean energy, lack of noise and zero fumes.

Why do I need this? 🤔

This falls into the category of "things you don't think about until you need them." If you live in an area prone to power outages, this generator can be a literal lifesaver. It's way more than a phone charger (though you'll thank yourself for staying connected). The Delta Max can keep your fridge powered (no more losing all your food after a big storm), your TV or even your tools. And it'll do that a lot more cleanly and quietly than a gas generator.

If you like camping but not giving up all the luxuries of home, the Delta Max is portable enough to make the trip with you. Imagine enjoying your string lights, heated blankets or even a coffee maker all while taking in the great outdoors. This generator provides over 2 kilowatt-hours of power but is expandable up to 6 with extra batteries.

With its expandable battery and 15(!) outlets, it can keep essential appliances and devices running smoothly during both short outages and extended breaks from the grid. Plus, it's easy to use and charges incredibly fast — just 108 minutes with AC input. There's even optional solar panel charging if AC power isn't available.

What reviewers say 💬

Over 700 five-star reviewers say the Delta Max is a reliable, versatile power station that brings them much-appreciated peace of mind.

Pros 👍

The app and the Delta Max's controls were particular standouts. "The remote control app is awesome!" said one five-star customer. "Love the way you cannot only monitor the system, but control it from the app as well, from anywhere."

Another five-star reviewer used this to replace their aging generator. "Had a large gas-guzzling Honda 7,000/12,000-watt generator that didn't have an electric start and was too loud to run in my current housing development. Not to mention it was a bear to set up and start up," they said. "The Delta Max solution was easy for me to move/transport and set up. At around 50 pounds or less for each module, I can easily move and set up this solar-powered generator solution without wrenching my back. I now have a quiet, efficient backup power during those unexpected power outages."

Another gas-generator convert said this: "It stays charged and available. I don't have to keep gas handy. I don't have to clean this out after every use to make sure the gas doesn't go bad after a few years of no usage. When the power goes out, it goes into action by itself."

Cons 👎

Other reviewers thought there could be some improvements, like including cables to attach solar panels you might already own. "I didn't realize they now only include the 120-volt mains and 12-volt lighter car-input cable. The solar-input cable is sold separately, so I had to order one of those before I could use my existing panels."

This final four-star reviewer thought button placement could be improved as well. "Like all others have said, this is a stellar unit. Its one shortcoming is that it has buttons on both ends, with a primary power button on one and the traditional 120-volt on the other side," they cautioned. "To turn it on, I have to punch the primary button on the front side ... then pull out the unit to punch the 120-volt 'on' button. The buttons should be all on one side, which would allow the far side to have devices permanently plugged into it and wouldn't require pulling out the device."

Want a quiet, exhaust-free alternative to traditional fuel-powered generators? Here's a contender.

Don't need quite so much power (or the hefty price tag that comes with it)? Here are some more affordable options:

If all you're worried about is keeping your phone, iPad or laptop juiced up during an outage, then this is the unit you're after. For under $200, this is way more powerful than that charging brick you got as a stocking stuffer last year. It can charge a phone 12 times, a camera 11 times or keep your laptop going for days, turning your campground into a mobile office or keeping the TV on during an outage.

When it comes to power outages, I think of two things: the food in my fridge and my HVAC. Although this isn't enough to power your entire house — for that you'll have to look at some of the larger options below — it can power a mini cooler for up to nine hours, long enough to keep your food good for a while. If wintertime food spoilage isn't an issue in your part of the country, the 500 will also power a TV for 7 hours or a laptop for 30.

During the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, my wife and I were watching the Colorado Avalanche when the power went out. Bummed, I looked out the window and saw that my neighbor still had the game going on his outdoor projector — which was plugged into an Explorer 1000 V2. Lesson learned.

Its two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, one DC car port and three AC outlets mean you can charge your tech as well as run a space heater. For an extra $250, you can add solar panels, which can charge this to 80% in just 2.4 hours.
