Thousands of Jeeps to fill Myrtle Beach roads this weekend. Where will worst traffic be?

The Myrtle Beach area will see thousands of Jeeps this weekend, potentially clogging up roads near downtown Myrtle Beach.

The Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The main event will be hosted at the former Myrtle Square Mall site near the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 North Oak St.

Traffic will likely be heaviest along U.S. 17 near the event, said marketing manager Philip Van der Vossen. Last year, a line of Jeeps trying to enter the event formed in the right lane of U.S. 17 headed south.

Van der Vossen said Jeep parking is opening two hours before the event to hopefully prevent the long line from forming this year. Moving traffic remained in the right lane, leaving room for other people to drive down the road.

There may also be an influx of cars along Oak Street as regular cars will be able to park at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

During the evenings, Jeep Jam will host events at Broadway at the Beach, including at Hard Rock Cafe and the Hangout. Van der Vossen said the venue’s large parking lot will likely prevent traffic jams in the area. That said, there could be heavier traffic around the mall.

On Saturday night, Crooked Hammock Brewery at Barefoot Landing will host a Jeep Jam event, bringing more Jeeps to the North Myrtle Beach shopping center.

There’s also a sunrise Jeep ride on the beach near the Sky Wheel from 6 to 7 a.m. Oct. 24 through Oct. 27. Jeeps will enter the beach at 14th Avenue North and exit at 3rd Avenue South. Early morning beachgoers should plan accordingly.

If you want to attend the Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam, general admission tickets for one day cost $10. At the event, there will be a mud pit, obstacle course and a Jeep show.
