Best known for being on Sister, Sister, Tia Mowry-Hardrict has made a name for herself as an actress, producer, author, and TV host. Since starring alongside her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tia has expanded her horizons, appearing in the comedy series The Game, Hallmark’s A Gingerbread Romance, Netflix's Family Reunion, and many other projects.
The 42-year-old has come a long way from the hit ‘90s sitcom that made her a household name and she’s had great company. Following her success on Sister, Sister, Tia was filming the independent horror movie Hollywood Horror when she met her husband, actor Cory Hardrict, in 1999.
After a day of shooting, the two quickly became friends. "I was waiting on a bus stop ... Her sister and her drove by, they saw me waiting and asked to give me a ride,” Cory said on The No Judgment Zone with BlogXilla. “They gave me a ride and we were friends ever since.”
The two were friends for a whole year before they began dating in 2000. Tia and Cory have been open about taking their relationship slow.
“I just held out. We weren’t physical, we didn’t do anything for a while to make sure this was something special and this was something real,” she told OK! in 2013. “We courted each other for about a year. We didn’t go on dates with just him and I, there were other people around. We waited a year to kiss.”
Eventually, the two did kiss and it happened during a picnic at the park, according to Tia. But before doing so, Cory made sure to ask her for permission. “I just thought that was so sweet, so kind,” she said on her YouTube channel Tia Mowry’s Quick Fix.
Six years later, on Christmas Day 2006, Cory proposed, and he made sure to have her whole family in on the surprise. At the dinner table, Cory handed Tia a card, which prompted her brother, Tahj Mowry, to play Jagged Edge’s song “Let's Get Married.” The actor then got down on one knee and popped the question, completely catching Tia off guard.
“I knew Tia was the one for me when she was in my corner when I moved to L.A.,” he said on Quick Fix. “I was dirt poor, I didn’t have anything, and she appreciated everything for what it was, and she loved me for me. And I knew once I could get in a financially better situation that I’m going to buy her a ring and that’s going to be my wife.”
On April 20, 2008, the couple officially tied the knot at the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara, California. It was a thoughtful choice because it was their favorite place to spend quality together when they were dating.
Three years later, Tia and Cory celebrated another milestone when their first child, a son named Cree Taylor Hardrict, was born on June 28, 2011. The family grew once again when Tia gave birth to their second child, a baby girl named Cairo Tiahna Hardrict, on May 5, 2018.
Throughout the years, Tia has continued to grow her resume: publishing a pregnancy guide, producing her STYLE Network series, and most recently, launching a limited edition home decor collection on Etsy. Meanwhile, Cory has appeared on shows and movies like American Sniper, Battle Los Angeles, The Oath, and S.W.A.T., among several others.
And what’s been the best part for Tia? Having Cory by her side every step of the way.
“He taught me how to believe in myself more than I believe in myself,” she said. “He is my biggest supporter and biggest fan.”
