Today's Hair Inspo: Kerry Washington's Big, Juicy, Waist-Length Braids

Some days call for a great braid… or braids. Just ask Kerry Washington, whose latest look makes me want to whip up a pair of pigtails for the rest of the week.
For a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live on November 13, the Scandal actor wore her hair in two waist-length braids by stylist Larri, pairing them with a bedazzled tweed Stella McCartney skirt suit and matching bag. Her hair was parted precisely in the center and slicked down close to her head on either side for a super sleek foundation, then gathered into two sections near her ears and braided into thick, full braids that ended right at the waistband of her skirt. Simple, timeless, and ideal for both everyday errands and chatting it up on ABC.
Glam-wise, Washington and makeup artist Fiona Stiles kept it just as classic with black liner and lashes, a pale pink lip, and and minimal, naked manicure, letting the braids be the centerpiece of her late-night look.
Washington basically never stops serving up hair inspo, and braids are an essential piece of her hairstyling repertoire. We're still thinking about the blonde-highlighted milkmaid braids she wore in 2023 to chat with Vice President Kamala Harris, which brought the beloved updo style back into the spotlight after its 2010s Pinterest-era heyday. We've seen her in Fulani braids, rainbow-wrapped braids, and box braids with braided bangs too.
But braids are just the tip of the iceberg for the star, who always keeps us guessing which style she'll choose for premieres, parties, and press engagements. At the 2024 Met Gala, she went shorter than ever with a sleek pixie, and prior to that, she walked the red carpet in a razor-sharp bob. For Taylor Swift's Eras tour, Washington brought the party in a big fluffy ponytail and red-orange lipstick. Basically, whatever your weekend plans may be, Washington has your hairstyle covered.
