Record 80 million Americans expected to travel for Thanksgiving holiday, industry group says
Americans are expected to set a new record for Thanksgiving travel, with nearly 80 million to hit the roads, catch flights and board cruises over the holiday period, travel group AAA said on Monday. Although staffing and aircraft shortages have capped the airline industry's ability to ramp up capacity during the holidays in previous years, a record number of Americans are expected to fly to their destinations this year. American Airlines plans to shuttle 8.3 million passengers from Nov. 21 to Dec. 3, about 500,000 more customers than last year.

Thanksgiving travel numbers may break records in 2024
The Thanksgiving travel period will see record-breaking numbers for those hitting both the roads and the skies, according to reports from several airlines and travel organizations. The American Automobile Association projected that 79.9 million travelers will head to destinations at least 50 miles from their homes over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, which officially runs from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2, 2024. AAA also estimated that 71.7 million Americans will travel by car over Thanksgiving, an increase of 1.3 million compared to last year.

US no-frills pioneer Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy protection
(Reuters) -Spirit Airlines has filed for bankruptcy protection, the no-frills U.S. travel pioneer said on Monday, after struggling with years of losses, failed merger attempts and heavy debt levels. It is the first major U.S. airline to file for Chapter 11 in more than a decade, after a proposed $3.8 billion merger with JetBlue Airways collapsed in January. The Florida-based airline said it had pre-arranged a deal with its bondholders to restructure its debts and raise money to help it operate during the bankruptcy process, which it expects to exit in the first quarter of 2025.
