It's all about the little things.

We know, we know—it feels like we're still only halfway through 2023. But, now, we already have a look into 2024.

Every year, Whole Foods Market's team of trend experts analyzes the food landscape to predict what trends are coming, staying, and leaving in the following year—and they just announced their top 10 projections for 2024.

“Our annual food trends predictions list is a way for us to pull back the curtain for customers and share insight into what our buyers and culinary experts are keeping on their radar for the upcoming year,” said Cathy Strange, member of the Trends Council. "From specific product ingredients and flavor trends, to growing movements in the food industry, we can't wait to see these trends gain momentum in the year ahead."

On the predictions list, there’s an exciting innovation in the world of chocolate, some noodle news, and several new kinds of complex heat to contemplate. But, there’s one trend on the list that, in our minds, takes the cake (and we think you’ll be on board too).

In fact, to know this trend is to love it. TikTok practically trademarked it, but now it’s taking off as a full-fledged consumer behavior movement.

That trend is: Little Luxuries.

Simile: Life is like a box of chocolates.

“TikTok creators have brought 'Little Treat Culture' into the zeitgeist, and we’re on board,” the brand stated in its press release. “We know firsthand the power of a treat, like an impulse macaron buy or a fizzy, functional, and flavor-forward bev.”

Yep, *little treats.* We’re talking about all the little “happies” that get you through your day, whether that be running through the drive-thru to try the new Wendy’s frosty or adding a fresh bouquet to your Trader Joe’s cart on the way out of the store. They’re the extra things that are worth the splurge (but are even better when they’re no splurge at all).

“Brands are getting in on the trend by considering both cost and format—like individual serving packages that add joy without breaking a budget,” stated the brand.

Anything can be a luxury with the right mindset. It can range from a healthy, beneficial boost to a small spend that might seem unnecessary, but takes a little bit of the stress away. This trend is all about treating yourself to what you deserve, even if all you’ve done is make it through the day.

So, where do you start? We bet you already have a pretty good idea, but if you need some inspiration, grab a single-serve cheesecake for your holiday movie night. Spend a few more dollars on an olive oil that’s so fragrant, it makes your kitchen smell like a restaurant. Add some fancy flakey sea salt to the top of your chocolate chip cookies just to make them shine.

“Whether it’s a daily ritual like having a milk tea on your commute home or a spontaneous reward like a bath bomb in your grocery cart, get ready to make room for those little luxuries,” stated the brand.

We might not be totally prepared for 2024 yet, but if we go in with a “little luxury” mindset, the future won’t look quite so intimidating.
