These are the top MS baby names in 2024. How do they compare to national favorites?

The list of most popular baby names in Mississippi for 2024 is out, and most names were also on the list last year.

William was the most popular name for boys and Olivia for girls, according to Mississippi Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records and Public Health Statistics.

Some names that jumped several spots in popularity this year in Mississippi are Beau, Luke, Kayden, Amir and Silas for boys, and Lainey, Kehlani, Oaklynn, Londyn and Aurora for girls.

The Social Security Administration in May released the most popular names for babies in 2023 across the United States.

The top names for boys last year were Liam, Noah, Oliver, James and Elijah. William was No. 10.

Olivia also was the top name for girls in the U.S. last year, followed by Emma, Charlotte, Amelia and Sophia.

Other names on Mississippi’s top list for 2024 were just as popular 100 years ago in 1924. William was the third most popular name for boys in the U.S. in 1924 and John was No. 2.

Mary was the top baby girls’ name in 1924, but that’s the only top 10 girls’ name on both lists.
