Tove is so much more than minimalism
Each season, we break down everything you need to know about the new collections in The Fashion Week Cheat Sheet. After speaking to the designers about their inspiration, their hero pieces, the faces on the catwalk and the names on the front row, we present your complete guide to spring/summer 2025.
Fast becoming one of our highlights on the London Fashion Week calendar, Tove returned to the catwalk this season, having chosen to present with a lookbook for autumn/winter 2024 – and took the fashion pack back to Senate House, the home of the brand's catwalk debut.
This season, designers Holly Wright and Camille Perry wanted to inject a sense of warmth into their collection. Known best for their minimalism and clean lines, they wanted to show that this can be mixed with femininity – women can have this balance. To them, Tove is: "Precise but imperfect. Dressed up but worn in. Always polished, never contrived."
It was refined and elegant, but undeniably wearable.
Theme and inspiration
"For spring/summer 2025, we wanted to inject warmth back into womenswear, balanced with an unpretentious British approach," Wright told us ahead of the show. "Inspiration for us is always driven by the Tove woman and how she moves through life. This season was really about evolving our world, for her."
In the show notes, the designers referenced "the languid charisma of Tina Chow meets dry British humour and streetwise irreverence". They presented jersey drawstring pieces with silk, relaxed trousers, a palazzo co-ord, V-necked tunics, silky evening dresses with flat mules, tailored separates in pyjama stripes and elevated sequins paired with low-key linen. All the shoes were flat, and large leather handbags were clutched close.
"Our aesthetic is always precise but imperfect," Perry adds. "Always polished and never contrived. Creating that balance is really important to us. As women designing for women, this feels instinctive. We understand how we want to feel when we wear our clothes. The current feeling in fashion has felt more divided. Cleaner and sharper on one hand, or overtly feminine on the other. We want our woman to be able to express all the nuances of herself in our pieces."
Hero pieces
"The Elodine Dress with its relaxed cocoon silhouette in tumbled Italian cotton is a collection favourite," says Perry. "Perfect for day to evening dressing. We know we will live in this come summer."
For Wright, it's the the Maggie Coated Linen Trench. "It is definitely a hero piece from the collection for me. Such a statement and perfect for the start of the season".
The setting
"Our vision is one of modern femininity," Wright says. "This sentiment is expressed so beautifully at Senate House. Through the classicism of the Greek Ionic columns and travertine stone halls and the backdrop of intricate ornate plasterwork and delicate wrought iron balustrades. As the home of our runway debut, it felt right to return there this summer season."
The message
"The collection channels the magnetic grace that comes from feeling confident in one’s clothes rather than controlled by 'good' taste. The Tove woman is more interested in cultivating a life than a wardrobe – and more noticeable for the way she moves through the world than what she is wearing."
