What Is The Plot Of Toxic Town?

As per Netflix's official logline, the premise of Toxic Town is as follows: 'Based on one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals, Toxic Town is the story of the people at the heart of the Corby poisonings. Focusing on the mothers, who took on a David and Goliath battle for justice, the series traces through the years of their fight as a terrible truth comes to the surface.'

The series delves into the very real case of the 2009 Corby poisonings and the environmental court case that followed it. The claim against the Corby Borough Council saw mothers of 30 children claim that the mismanagement of the toxic waste removal operations during 1984 and 1999 caused their children to be born with serious disabilities, including deformities of their feet and underdeveloped or missing fingers.

Evidence of the case was first submitted to the High Court in London in 2005, which resulted in Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers granting the parents (all of whom either lived in, or habitually visited the town) the ability to pursue class action against Corby Borough Council for their children born between 1984 and 1999.

Similar to the portrayal in the series, the case finally made it to the High Court in 2009, following Corby Borough Council's delays in disclosing information regarding the case.
