Travis Kelce says it's a 'great honor' that Donald Trump is attending the Super Bowl

Travis Kelce has weighed in on President Donald Trump attending this year’s Super Bowl.

During a press conference on Wednesday (February 5) ahead of the big game on Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end told reporters that he considered Trump’s appearance to be “a great honor.”

“I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool,” he said.

Kelce, 35, and his Chiefs teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, will take on the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

The news was first revealed that Trump would be attending the game on Tuesday, making him the first sitting president to watch the Super Bowl in person. His presence comes amid feverish security preparations in the city in the wake of the deadly New Year’s Eve terror attack in which 14 people were killed and several more were injured.

According to The Guardian, the president will also sit down for a pre-recorded interview that will be aired on the pregame show for Fox, this year’s broadcaster for the Super Bowl.

Former president Joe Biden declined to sit down for a Super Bowl interview in 2023 and 2024, and Trump also declined in 2018 during his first term.

Although Donald Trump has not yet clarified which team he will be supporting, he did congratulate the Chiefs on reaching the Super Bowl when they beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game.

“What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform at the time.

He said nothing about the Eagles’ victory over the Washington Commanders.

Kelce’s comments come after Trump said he didn’t like his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Before the 2024 Presidential Election, the Grammy winner endorsed Trump’s opponent, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

In a lengthy post on Instagram in September, she said that, having watched the presidential debate between the two of them, Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe.”

In an apparent jab at now-Vice President JD Vance, the singer signed off her post: “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

In a 2021 interview, Vance complained that the country was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies” — including Harris — “who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

Shortly after the Instagram post was shared, Trump spoke on Fox and Friends to say that he was “not a fan of Taylor Swift.”

“It was just a question of time... But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace,” he said.

Swift previously endorsed Joe Biden for president in 2020. When Harris tweeted that she was “honored” to join Biden on the Democratic ticket, Swift replied with one word: “YES.”

The “Karma” singer will also be in attendance at the Super Bowl this year to show her support for Kelce.
