Treehouses or space for 20? See inside the new cabins at Wilderness at the Smokies

Wilderness at the Smokies has gotten bigger – a lot bigger! What was already Tennessee’s largest indoor waterpark resort and family adventure center has now added more than two dozen new mountainside lodging options, including cabins and treehouses.

“Wilderness has really been focused on reinvesting and keeping everything looking brand new,” Director of Sales Nikki Bounds told Knox News, part of the USA TODAY Network, adding that the attraction has options for a variety of family sizes, tastes and budgets.

“Our research found that fully-furnished cabins are really in demand so we spent 2024 designing and building three new freestanding lodging options (styles),” managing director Pete Tennis explained in a release.

The 28 new freestanding cabins range in size from 1,300 to 3,900 square feet; the largest can accommodate up to 22 people. All registered guests receive admission to the year-round waterpark.

What do the new Wilderness at the Smokies cabins include?

Wilderness has added 14 four-bedroom cabins, eight five-bedroom cabins and six five-bedroom treehouse cabins for guests, along with the villas and room suites that were already available.

Bounds noted that the new cabins are optimal for large groups, reunions, or even small families and groups that just want extra space.

Some of the cabin amenities and features include:

  • King- and queen-sized beds, twin bunk beds and sleeper sofas

  • Full kitchens with refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher and breakfast bar with stools, dishes, utensils and cookware

  • Cathedral ceilings, outdoor decks, washers and dryers

  • Dining area, wet bar, conversational table and seating, gaming table, gas fireplace, TV and Wi-Fi

  • Each of the five-bedroom cabins has an entertainment room with a 120” laser projection television and eight theatre seats

“The cabins are wonderful. I think that the entertainment cabin is a great option, but the treehouse cabin may be my favorite because it is unique in what it is, having that additional little treehouse space,” Bounds said.

How much are the new cabins at Wilderness at the Smokies?

The new cabins are available now for guests to reserve at wildernessatthesmokies.com.

Booking rates vary depending on day of the week and the season. Knox News found rates as low as $249 per night in February and over $1,000 for a summer stay during a search on the website on Feb. 11.

More renovations and upgrades at Wilderness at the Smokies

The resort is also giving all 234 Stone Hill Lodge guest rooms “a facelift” with new paint, carpet, flooring, countertops, furniture, artwork and TVs. The lodge’s lobby is getting a makeover, too.

Room and lobby updates are set to be completed by mid-March. It’s the lodge’s first renovation since the hotel building opened in 2008.

There are plans to update the property’s restaurant later this year, too, according to Bounds.

The new Lookout Lagoon rooftop pool area opened last year with a glass edge, cabanas and an entertainment stage. And Wilderness doubled the square footage of its indoor pool by adding the three-story water coaster Ridge Runner and the immersive Kaleidoscope Kavern Lazy River in late 2023.
