I Tried Gozney's Viral Pizza Oven, and I'm Never Ordering Delivery Again

One of the benefits of having outdoor space is having enough room to cook and entertain outside, whether it’s a firepit, grill, or smoker. My family uses all of the above. My brother, in particular, is our go-to person when it comes to the coolest cookware, appliances, and gadgets. He’s got a full house so cooking finds that can accommodate large servings are a must, and that’s not even counting the multiple family visits every year! A perk of spending time at his house is checking out the latest additions to his kitchen and outdoor space. It’s even better when I actually get a chance to try them out in the limited time I have on my trip.
After months of listening to my brother brag about how good his homemade pizza tastes, I finally had a chance to try it and judge for myself this past summer when he fired up his Gozney Dome S1 Pizza Oven. I had my doubts that anything could come close to my favorite local pizza spot, but after enjoying a homemade pepperoni pizza made with the Gozney, I had to agree: It’s somehow even better!

Design Features That Stand Out
For starters, the Gozney Dome S1 is a gorgeous piece. It’s a professional-grade outdoor oven that’s equipped with a quick-start gas burner that emits a rolling flame. The oven heats up to 950°F, a temperature it can sustain for back-to-back cooking. The oven was designed for effortless use by beginners and kitchen experts and is equipped with intuitive controls to help streamline the cooking process. “Being able to fully cook a pizza in less than 2 minutes is so awesome,” says one Gozney reviewer, “because you can cook three or four before the first one gets cold!” The Dome S1 allows you to make pizza however you like it, which makes it perfect for pizza parties in which everyone gets to choose their own toppings. In addition to pizza, you can also take advantage of the high-temperature cooking experience by baking and roasting with an open flame.
How It Performed
Since we were doing a pizza night at my brother’s place, all of the pizza dough and toppings were unloaded from the refrigerator and placed on the kitchen island so everyone could choose what they wanted. I went with a basic pepperoni pizza, my nieces chose Italian sausage, and my mom wanted meat and veggies. Despite what I thought was a lofty order (we ended up with five pizzas total), my brother prepared them all and began loading them into the Gozney Dome S1 Oven one by one. I was shocked when the first one hit the table mere minutes after he started cooking! The cheese was melted down to perfection, the pepperoni was just the right amounts of savory and crunchy, and the oven’s stone had given the lightly flavored pizza crust the ideal texture: crispy on the outside with a soft middle. I was immediately hooked and couldn’t help but try a bite of everyone’s pizza. Though they all slightly differed in toppings, each one was a hit and really did taste like it came from a restaurant!
What I Loved
Sleek Design: Not only is the Gozney Dome S1 highly effective when it comes to pizza-making, it’s also stylish to boot. It looks so fantastic on the back patio that you can’t help but want to gather (safely) near it.
Wide Mouth: In addition to the 16-inch oven mouth being incredibly convenient for loading in pizza and other foods, I love that it also makes it super easy to see the food cooking on the stone — even if it does make me want to eat so much sooner!
Compatible Accessories: Gozney has a variety of accessories that heighten the cooking experience, although they aren’t included with the pizza oven itself. Some of my personal favorites are the dough-proofing tray, pizza server, turning peel, pizza cutter, and Dome Stand.
Good to Know
The Gozney Dome S1 cooks more than just pizza! Fans of the innovative pizza oven have baked bread, cooked chicken, skewers, roasts, grilled fish, and more. While it does have a bit of a learning curve, the more pizza and other recipes you make, the better you’ll get.
