I Tried Krispy Kreme's Dr Pepper Doughnuts—Here’s My Unfiltered Review
Can anyone actually pinpoint the flavor of Dr Pepper? A blend of 23 flavors, Dr Pepper is completely unique, yet difficult to define. In a line of sodas, Dr Pepper probably one of the easiest to pick out. But how about enjoying a Dr Pepper in doughnut form? Could it possibly nail all 23 flavors (and then some)?
Thanks to Krispy Kreme's launch of a Dr Pepper Doughnut in its Kickoff Collection to celebrate football season, I could finally find out. A soda-flavored doughnut? I, of course, had to try it.
The Dr Pepper Kickoff Doughnut starts off with an Original Glazed, but is topped with Dr. Pepper-flavored frosting, sprinkles, and a white chocolate logo. Compared to the other two donuts in the Krispy Kreme x Dr Pepper Kickoff Collection box, this one smelled different...less sugary and more peppery.
Dr Pepper combines flavors like cherry, amaretto, and licorice. The doughnut is definitely more cherry-forward. The icing had a peppery "bite" like Dr Pepper and even left a similar aftertaste. While I might not be able to identify the the flavor in a blind taste test, if I knew I was tasting soda-flavored doughnuts, this one would be obvious. Even if you don't like Dr Pepper, you might like this donut.
The rest of the collection includes a Buttercreme Goals Doughnut and a Kreme Filled Football Doughnut. Whether or not you're a Dr Pepper fan, or even watch football, you can order the Kickoff Collection box for a limited time. It's also available at select retailers, like Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, and Publix.
