I Tried the New Lay’s Potato Chip Flavor, and I Get Why Fans Have Been Begging for It for Years
If you’re as into the world of snacking and chips as I am, then you know about the elusive, exclusively sold in Canada, all-dressed potato chips. All dressed is kind of like the Canadian equivalent of our everything bagel seasoning because as its name suggests, it’s got four all-star flavors — ketchup, barbecue sauce, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar — in one bite! It’s really a maximalist’s dream.
A few weeks ago we learned Lay’s would be launching its own version of All Dressed Chips (for the first time ever!) in the States, and we’re happy to report that the day is finally here, and we got a first taste.
What You Should Know About Lay’s All Dressed Chips
The Lay’s All-Dressed Chips hit select stores earlier this month and are expected to continue rolling out to the rest of the country through January. Lay’s rendition is a mix of barbecue, salt and vinegar, and sour cream and onion all in one chip — just hold the ketchup. While this isn’t the first Stateside release of All Dressed chips from a major brand (FritoLay launched Ruffles All Dressed Chips a few years back before discontinuing them, and then reintroducing them late last year), it is a first for the Lay’s brand.

My Honest Review of Lay’s All Dressed Chips
Having never traveled to Canada, my only experience with all dressed chips is the Fresh Market’s store-brand All Dressed Chips I used to buy weekly back in college (They are incredible). So I went into this Lay’s version with an open mind, but looking for three key flavors: sweetness, tanginess, and savoriness.
I popped open the bag (which is a stunning eggplant purple, I must say) and snacked on a few chips. An immediate burst of flavors hit my palate: smokey barbecue, tangy vinegar, and a hint of sweetness. The chips, incredibly thin and delicate yet surprisingly sturdy, offered a satisfying crunch to round it out. These are the brand’s O.G. potato chips, designed for maximum crispiness, which IMO, makes the entire eating experience.
The ones from the Fresh Market that I adored had ketchup in them, and although I thought that I would miss it going into these chips with the combination of the barbecue and salt and vinegar, I feel like hitting all those tangy notes that the ketchup isn’t missed.
It’s true, these chips really are full of bold flavor, and I will happily keep snacking on these chips for the foreseeable future and stock up on a few more bags (in case they’re discontinued).
