Twitter Calls Out Jimmy Kimmel for Lying Down Onstage During Quinta Brunson’s Emmys Speech
Jimmy Kimmel is getting some pretty understandable backlash for crashing Quinta Brunson’s Emmy win last night. In case you missed it, Jimmy and Will Arnett presented Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, and their bit involved Jimmy drinking too many skinny margs and being passed out onstage.
And at first it was kinda funny! But then Jimmy stayed onstage after Quinta won, and she had to give her acceptance speech next to him literally just lying on the ground. And Twitter wasn’t impressed.
Quinta Brunson deserved better than giving her acceptance over Jimmy Kimmel’s “dead” body. #Emmys #AbbottElementary pic.twitter.com/ofP5mkXpvy

Jimmy Kimmel owes Quinta an apology but the messed up part is every image of her accepting her award has his ass in it.
White men really are insufferable.— Candice Marie Benbow (@CandiceBenbow) September 13, 2022
White male privilege is laying on the ground & expecting a Black woman to just step around you while she accepts her hard-earned award. Fuck Jimmy Kimmel. #Emmys2022

Jimmy Kimmel should have left the stage during Quinta’s speech. Highly disrespectful #Emmys

The choice to make Quinta Brunson step over Jimmy Kimmel to get to the mic and then play her off early was atrocious. #Emmys

Every woman in the background is NOT amused Jimmy Kimmel. Trash. #Emmys2022

Quinta was asked about the moment in the press room after her win and said, “I know Jimmy Kimmel, and I don’t know, I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much. I don’t know what the internet thinks.” She added, “Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot. He was one of the first people to see Abbott. He Instagram messaged that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time. He was so excited it was going to be on ABC. So I think in that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there. I kind of just consider him one of the comedy godfathers. I’m a huge fan of Will Arnett, so I was wrapped up in the moment. Tomorrow, maybe I’ll be mad at him.”
Quinta Brunson addressed Jimmy Kimmel laying on stage during her #Emmys acceptance speech: "I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much...Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face." https://t.co/Bm8Bfhyi0k pic.twitter.com/cMDuZbq0AQ

Quinta is a guest on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live (she joked, “Maybe I’ll punch him. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens”) so here’s to hoping he apologizes to her.
