Twitter is not happy with this hotel's sexist bathroom signs

We love a quirky bathroom sign as much as the next person — that is, as long as you can still decipher which room you’re supposed to use. But one hotel may have taken things a little too far.

While recently visiting a Penta Hotel in the U.K., Cassie Chadderton was a little put off by when she went to use the bathroom and noticed that in place of the standard “ladies” and “gents,” the hotel had illustrations of people with thought bubbles coming out of their heads. Sounds innocent enough, right? But it was the fact that the signs implied men were thinking about football while the women were thinking about shopping — and how that perpetuates long held gender stereotypes — that really annoyed her.

She took to Twitter to voice her thoughts.

The hotel was quick to respond saying, “yes, we know. And men also shop a lot, just happens to be for football gear :).”

But their lighthearted dismissal of Chadderton’s complaint got others going on Twitter.

While the hotel chose to duck out of the conversation at this point, many have called for the removal of the signs.
