Online Liquor Store Drizly Is Shutting Down Drizly

Fans of the alcohol ordering and delivery platform Drizly were left speechless this week when the company announced on Monday that it would be closing for good. In their announcement, which came via social media, the online liquor store offered this statement to customers: "We wanted you to hear it from us: we're closing Drizly."

Fans quickly offered their support in the comments, applauding Drizly for their work as pioneers in the industry.

"It won’t be the same but thank you for pioneering this awesome concept! Cheers to the next chapter," one person wrote.

"Noooo this is so sad! thank you for your service and for the hilarious marketing notifications & emails that i always enjoyed receiving!!" another user added.

Others declared that with Drizly shuttering, it's the "end of an era." And quite a few commended the company for helping keep glasses filled and liquor companies afloat during the pandemic.

"Thank you for great service. You guys legit got me through the worst of the pandemic and then some," read one comment.

"Oh man, this makes me sad. Loved your business and your marketing was amazing," read another.

Before you attempt to stock up on bottles of Fireball, Drizly did share that orders are still open until the end of March, so no rush there. And as an added bonus, Drizly customers can expect exclusive perks in their inbox over the next few weeks.

First launched in Boston in 2013, Drizly had quite the 1o-year run. During that decade-long run, the company was purchased by Uber for $1.1 billion in 2021.

"After three years of Drizly operating independently within the Uber family, we've decided to close the business and focus on our core Uber Eats strategy of helping consumers get almost anything—from food to groceries to alcohol—all on a single app," Uber senior vice president of delivery Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty told CBS MoneyWatch.
