The ultimate pyjama debate: Are cosy or sexy pyjamas better?
So, er, what are we wearing to bed these days...? Adam Sandler ’fit? Cute matching PJs? Your partner’s undies? Welcome to Cosmopolitan UK’s latest debate, where two fashion staffers face off on the pressing sartorial issues. This time around, we're discussing pyjama preferences.
“I'll do whatever's cosy!”
After that front door shuts, comfort becomes the name of the game. Makeup off, hair up, a boiling shower and then straight into my PJs. For me, this is an oversized T-shirt with something like ‘Seattle’ printed on the front in a varsity font. (Fun fact: I’ve never actually been, but H&M says I have.) Pair this with some jersey shorts or yoga pants and I feel right
at home.
A matching ‘fancy set’ has never quite called to me, despite all the saved Instagram folders I have of them – perhaps because I’m a klutz and would *immediately* spill something all over them. My home time is precious, so being comfortable while I cosy up to a well-deserved marathon of Housewives is essential. When I've completed the look with my favourite fuzzy socks, I'm totally sold with my carefree choice. Let's finally catch those zzz, shall we?

“A cutesy matching set for me, please!”
Look, I was a die-hard ‘Adam Sandler ’fit to bed’ type of gal for most of my life. (Basketball shorts and my dad’s enormous, bleach-stained T-shirt from 1996, for those unfamiliar.) Who cares, right? But then, I moved from a hot climate to London, where winter nights in my drafty old warehouse flat proved to be a frigid ordeal. I discovered that cosying up in a romantic matching sleepwear set makes me feel like the main character in a '90s Nora Ephron film, and now I’m obsessed.
I go for breathable, natural fabrics and something about the co-ordination makes me feel organised and in control – like my life is more put together than it really is. My favourites are by Stripe & Stare. They’re made with stretchy, butter-soft Tencel, and I size up for ultimate comfort that moves with me when I sleep. But I also adore my gingham linen sets from Piglet in Bed, and my 100% silk pair from LilySilk. If I’m away on a trip or with family, I look pulled together at breakfast; no need to change straight away, and I love WFH in an elasticated waistband, too. I’m a convert!
