What’s the better Valentine’s Day gift? Have your say
Yahoo UK's poll of the week lets you vote and indicate your strength of feeling on one of the week's hot topics. After the poll closes, we'll publish and analyse the results each Friday, giving readers the chance to see how polarising a topic has become and if their view chimes with other Yahoo UK readers.
Love is in the air! Valentine's Day is nearly upon us, with plenty of pink and red branding all around to inspire gifting for our loved ones.
But the day dedicated to love and romance is a divisive one in the UK. A 2024 YouGov survey found that 51% of Britons did not celebrate Valentine's Day last year - and among those who did, staying in with a homemade meal with their partner and date was the preferred way of celebrating.
When it comes to Valentine's Day gifts, the poll found that cards, chocolates and flowers were the most popular gift choices among Britons.
Nearly half (43%) of loved-up couples gave cards, followed by chocolates (25%) and flowers (20%).
A more recent survey by Marks & Spencer also found chocolates and flowers to be the most received gifts, as well as romantic dinners (16%). However, the retailer found people's preferences for gifts to differ slightly, with the ideal presents to receive being romantic dinners (26%), chocolates (20%) and perfume or cologne (31%).
We want to know what you think is the winning Valentine's Day present. Are you into chocolates or flowers? Or is the way to your heart through a fancy dinner?
