About 40 Volkswagen vans that have been transformed into "epic" festive light displays have taken over a shopping centre for charity.

The VeeDubs team gathered in Cribbs Causeway in Bristol on Thursday to take part in the Shine Bright for Bristol Children's Hospital campaign to raise money for The Grand Appeal.

Organiser Steve Wright said the group wanted to help spread "a little bit of festive cheer".

Debbie Williams, who covered her van in 4,500 Christmas lights for the event, said: "It's just been brilliant. The smiles, the fun, collecting lights, it's epic."

Ms Williams added: "Some people have up to 24,000 and more on their vans, can you believe it.

"What a brilliant community."

Some of the vans include some special surprises such as the official Grand Appeal Jingles Gromit.

"He's been safely strapped to the top of our van", Mr Wright said.

"People have come as far down as Exeter and Taunton and from all over the region to take part."

The vans are currently touring Bristol in the run up to Christmas.

'Spread festive cheer'

Chris Tucker's daughter was treated at Bristol Hospital three years ago, for her epilepsy.

"We've seen the other side of the fence, we've seen how much worth The Grand Appeal provides," he said.

"Getting involved with Christmas VeeDubs has been a big thing for us and our children really enjoy it.

"We're just spreading a little bit of festive cheer whilst we can."

The Christmas VeeDubs procession has so far raised £2,200 and aims to reach £20,000 by the end of the year.
