It's that time of the year!
Every year, as the holidays get closer, a plethora of ugly Christmas sweaters inundate my social media feeds. Sure, they're fun and often not even that ugly. But it always makes me wonder, why do we continue to forgo style for the sake of holiday spirit?
Victoria Beckham's latest look may be the solution to that yearly sacrilege. The singer-turned-designer recently stepped out wearing a chic red turtleneck sweater that epitomized the holiday spirit. In true Posh Spice fashion, she paired the festive sweater with caramel-colored pleated trousers, a thin brown belt, and a burgundy top handle mini bag.
The juxtaposition of ultra-festive red and the tailored, pleated pants offered a chic alternative to the usual holiday outfits, teaching us a lesson for the upcoming season. While the season is usually filled with sequins on top of glitter on top of knit sweaters on top of rhinestones, there's no reason why you should follow that formula if you're not feeling it. Instead, pare it all back a la Beckham.

Start with a basic red turtleneck sweater as your anchor festive piece, which can be paired with a more daytime-appropriate pair of jeans or trousers, or a nighttime-ready pencil skirt or even leather pants. The key is to step out of the holiday clichés, and just let your Christmas-ready sweater speak for itself.
Deck the halls with a joyful red sweater with none of the holiday cringe.
