The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Officially Returns This Fall and Will ‘Reflect Who We Are Today’

The once celebrated fashion show has been on a hiatus since 2018 amid criticism that the brand isn’t inclusive enough

After a five-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is officially back.

The lingerie brand shared the announcement via Instagram Reels on Wednesday, May 15 that the legendary fashion show would be returning this fall.

“We’ve read the comments and heard you,” reads the caption. “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is ✨ BACK ✨ and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more! Stay tuned…it only gets more iconic from here. 🪽”

In a statement shared with people, a Victoria’s Secret brand representative hints that the upcoming 2024 show will be more inclusive than past years.

“The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will deliver precisely what our customers have been asking for — the glamour, runway, fashion, fun, wings, entertainment — all through a powerful, modern lens reflecting who we are today,” the rep says. “We're thrilled to share a women-led articulation of this iconic property later this year!”

In 2019, Victoria’s Secret announced the annual show’s cancellation and it has remained on hiatus since. The brand has faced ongoing criticism for its lack of inclusivity on the runway and many fans hoped the announcement signaled that a rebrand was in the works.

One X user shared that they were looking forward to “a wider range of sizes and a more diverse slew of models.”

“Honestly, after watching Rihanna‘s SavageXFenty show and seeing the diversity in skin tones, shapes, ethnicities, and the actual performance level, I wasn’t even planning on watching the Victoria’s Secret show,” added another, referencing Rihanna‘s highly-inclusive lingerie fashion show in September 2019.

In March 2023, chief financial officer Timothy Johnson revealed that the brand would be revamping the annual event during the company's 2022 earnings call. Retail Dive was the first outlet to cover the update.

"We're going to continue to lean into the marketing spend to invest in the business, both at top-of-funnel and also to support the new version of our fashion show, which is to come later this year," Johnson said.

In July 2023, the brand announced that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show would return in the form of a documentary, The Victoria’s Secret World Tour, which began streaming on Prime Video in September of that year.

In tandem with the documentary, Victoria’s Secret hosted fashion events across Bogota, Lagos, London and Toyko with a goal to “uplift and champion women,” per a press release at the time.
