'Virgin River' Season 5 Part 2 Hits Netflix This Week (!!)
Netflix's hit romantic drama, Virgin River, follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe as she creates a new life for herself in the town of Virgin River, California, and it's been bringing all the feels for five seasons now. And this holiday season, fans get a little something extra to feed that part of their soul that craves more Virgin River drama.
Yep, show runners decided to break the series' fifth season into two parts—a choice that makes total sense considering the first part, which dropped September 7, was *really* intense. The final episode of season 5 part 1 left the townspeople in total mayhem after a wildfire sweeps through town and Mel loses her baby in a miscarriage. Now, part 2 is expected to bring the season to a sweeter, softer end, and it's just three days away.
Here’s everything to know:
What happened during Virgin River season 5 part 1?
During season 5 part 1, Mel discovers that her mom may have had an affair with someone from the town of Virgin River, and that person might just be her biological dad. Viewers also learn that Jack isn’t the father of Charmaine’s twins, and a massive wildfire roars through Virgin River, leaving a ton of destruction in its wake.
Unfortunately, Mel suffers a miscarriage while helping to save her neighbors from the fires, which is especially tragic given that she experienced a stillbirth in the past. After her miscarriage, Mel tells Jack that she can’t bear the idea of going through another pregnancy and, even though they want kids, it’s clear they’ll need to find another way.
Mel also decides she wants to buy Tara’s farm and Jack says it would be a great place to get married. So, clearly, there's a lot that still needs to resolve at the end of part 1.
When does Virgin River season 5 part 2 drop?
Virgin River season 5 part 2 is set to drop on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Who will be in the cast?
Don't worry. You can expect all your old favorites to show up again for part 2. Mel, Jack, Hope, Brie, Preacher, Doc, and Brady have a lot of things to resolve before next season.
What happens in part 2?
Part 2 isn’t out yet, but Women's Health has some information for you in advance. For starters, Virgin River’s producer, Patrick Sean Smith, told Glamour that part 2 will take place during the holiday season (which will match up with the real life holiday season), and will be a little less intense than part 1.
“The holiday episodes are a little bit lighter, and we wanted to play a little more comedy after the weight of this season,” he said. “It felt like, if we're going to give a holiday gift to the audience, let's make it a fun one.”
The episodes will focus on Jack and Mel trying to track down Mel’s biological father, and there’s also an annual Christmas tree light competition to check out.
How many episodes will there be?
Part two just only includes two new episodes.
Is there a trailer?
Yup. Netflix has already released a short trailer for part 2 and it’s giving all the feels:
Also worth noting: At one point Mel says, “We did it, we found my father,” before Preacher says that he’s still “right here in Virgin River.” So, if I had to guess, there is some conclusion on the whole Mel's missing father plot line.
Netflix also dropped the first nine minutes of the new Christmas special on its site.
While fans are eagerly waiting for November 30th, the new nine-minute sneak-peek offers a glimpse at what’s to come. In the original trailer, Mel says, “we did it, we found my father,” before Preacher says that he’s still “right there in Virgin River.”
So, the sneak peak begins with Mel and Jack picking out a perfect Christmas tree before questioning whether or not her biological dad is actually from Virgin River. Brie and Mike begin baby-proofing her house for her sister’s children, who are visiting for the holiday’s, when her father arrives upset that their mother arrived with her new boyfriend.
Doc, Hope, Denny, and Lizzie are preparing for their tree-decorating contest. Oh, and Lizzie is officially pregnant! While everyone is excited for a new baby to arrive, there’s no doubt there are awkward family moments and difficult conversations to come.
While I could analyze the clip for hours, you can watch the sneak-peek yourself here.
Is there a season 6?
Yes! Part 2 of season 5 basically serves as a bridge to get everyone from all the drama of season 5 part 1 to season 6. But the sixth season is currently being written, according to an Instagram post shared by the series last month, so don't expect it any time soon.
Get excited, season 5 part 2 drops so, so soon! While fans have to wait just a little longer, don't worry, it's coming!
