I visited this Fort Worth bakery to find Valentine’s Day cookies for only $10
From jewelry to extravagant flower bouquets to fancy dinners, Valentine’s Day is not so friendly to your bank account.
Most would agree Valentine’s Day should be less about material gifts and more about celebrating love, but it is a commercialized holiday, after all.
The National Retail Federation anticipates that Americans will spend around $27.5 billion on Valentine’s Day this year. Candy will account for 56 percent of the sales, though jewelry will make up the largest sum of money spent (approximately $6.5 billion). Americans haven’t been projected to spend this much on Valentines Day since before Covid, when consumers spent $27.4 billion in 2020.
My budget for the holiday this year is $20 (Sorry to my boyfriend, but it’s the thought that counts). Luckily, I didn’t even have to spend my full budget! This Fort Worth bakery I visited scored me a deal for $10.
If you had a New Year’s Resolution to be more fit, Valentine’s Day can be an exception. Sweets are always good for the soul. And I found five Fort Worth gyms for under $25 a month in last month’s column, so there is no excuse to not indulge.

Valentine’s Day at Blue Bonnet Bakery
Fort Worth’s classic Blue Bonnet Bakery has tons of Valentine’s Day-themed sweets to choose from. Who wouldn’t be happy to receive cupcakes, cookies or even chocolate-covered strawberries?
The best way to order at Blue Bonnet would be to call ahead — especially for the chocolate-covered strawberries, because the bakery needs to ensure they have enough strawberries ahead of time. These delicacies are made from local strawberries dipped in chocolate at $3.50 each. You can get a box of five for $17.50 (to stick with our $20 budget). You can order any number of strawberries you need.
The cookies are available at $9.50 for a dozen or 70 cents apiece. Steal! I got sugar cookies shaped like hearts and lips with red, pink and purple decorations. They were also dangerous– it was hard to not eat the whole box of 12.
Blue Bonnet Bakery also has many flavors of cupcakes. Those come in chocolate and vanilla flavors for $2 each. For Valentine’s Day, you can also order red velvet cupcakes (my favorite) for $2.50 each. If you want to add a custom frosting color, the price may increase.
Blue Bonnet Bakery is located at 4705 Camp Bowie Blvd. They are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
To call and place an order, you can contact the bakery by phone at (817) 731-4233, fax at (817) 731-9457 or email at info@bluebonnetbakery.com.
