This Vitamin C Oil Makes My Skin Glowy, Not Greasy

The Splurge is our new weekly column dedicated to expensive beauty products that are actually worth it. This week, why we're rebuying Biossance's Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, despite the $72 price tag.

I've been a longtime skeptic of face oils. As someone with acne-prone, combination skin, adding more moisture to my already oily face has always seemed counterintuitive and the recipe for an unnecessary breakout.

In reality, as a beauty editor, I know that not all face oils clog your pores. Using an oil can actually help maintain your skin's moisture balance and give your face an instant glow. However, all of rich oils I've tried just sit on top of my skin instead of absorbing into it — and I don't enjoy feeling greasy. Believe me, face oil splotches are just as tough to get out of your bedsheets as self-tanner stains.

I was finally turned onto face oils after getting introduced to Biossance's Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. One of the brand's best-selling products, the oil brightens, firms, calms redness, and hydrates skin. While I was initially hesitant about trying another oil, this one's ingredients got me. Vitamin C is extremely effective for minimizing dark spots (like the marks I have all over my chin from past breakouts), while rose boosts radiance (and is one of my favorite scents).

Unlike the other oils I've tried, this one made my skin instantly glowy without any lingering greasiness. That's because it's also formulated with squalene oil. This oil has a small molecular size so it's able to penetrate the skin deeper, making it ideal for oily skin types because it won't just sit on top of your face and potentially clog your pores. Basically, I've never liked face oils because I had been trying the wrong ones for my skin.

Even though Biossance's oil is so lightweight, it absorbed into my skin quickly, the floral scent made it still luxurious to use. This decadence comes with a price. A bottle of it is $72, which seems steep at first — when you're not completely sold on face oils.

A few weeks in, and my consistently glowy, non-greasy skin makes the re-buy completely justifiable.
