Waitrose vs ASDA Easter eggs, revealed: The supermarket chocolate ACTUALLY worth buying this bank holiday
Easter is less than two weeks away (mark your calendars for 20 April) and we are counting down the days until our favourite bank holiday arrives, giving us the perfect excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you haven't decided yet which Easter egg you want the Easter Bunny to deliver yet, and are heading to your local supermarket to pick up an egg, then read this before you go, as we have the official verdict as to whether Waitrose or ASDA has the best Easter egg offering this year.
For a long time we would often pick up chocolate brand eggs. You couldn't go wrong with a classic Cadbury's Creme egg, or if we were feeling boujie, one of Green & Black's was top of our list. However, in the last few years the supermarkets have seriously upped their game when it comes to their own brand Easter eggs.
But is budget friendly supermarket ASDA the way to go for your Easter egg? Or does Waitrose have more to offer in the chocolate department? We've rounded up the best Easter eggs from each brand, with expert recommendations from Good Housekeeping to give the verdict on which supermarket has the best Easter eggs, and the answers may surprise you.
Best milk chocolate Easter egg - ASDA
Exceptional by ASDA Caramel, Pretzel & Honeycomb Milk Chocolate Egg 300G
A classic for a reason, but which brand comes out on top? Well Good Housekeeping ranked ASDA's Exceptional by ASDA Caramel, Pretzel & Honeycomb Milk Chocolate Easter egg as their favourite in this category, thanks to it's "sweet and salty combo". They gave the egg a score of 89/100. Oh, and it's less than £8.
No.1 Milk Chocolate Flat Easter Egg
Meanwhile Waitrose's new milk chocolate egg was less favoured by the brand, given a score of 82/100, but still has a solid review. The No.1 Milk Chocolate Flat Easter Egg is made up of milk chocolate and "feuilletine wafer and fleur de sel" and then decorated with "cocoa nibs and gold shimmered dark chocolate flakes". We love the idea of a flat Easter egg as something new for the year, but it is on the slightly pricier end at £12 per egg.
Best dark chocolate Easter egg - ASDA
Exceptional by ASDA Orange & Ginger Dark Chocolate Egg
Again, ASDA was the clear favourite for Good Housekeeping, who awarded the Exceptional by ASDA Orange & Ginger Dark Chocolate Egg as their favourite dark chocolate Easter egg. Along with the dark chocolate shell, it's also got orange peel and spicy crystallised ginger embed within the chocolate. It sounds delicious, and sophisticated, aka the egg we'll be getting our mums this Easter.
Dark Chocolate & Nut Flat Florentine Easter Egg
As for Waitrose, Good Housekeeping rated their new No.1 Dark Chocolate & Nut Flat Florentine Easter Egg as a 79/100. The dark chocolate and praline egg is topped with flaked almonds, caramelised pecan nut pieces, and caramelised hazelnut pieces, and GH added that it is "pretty sweet for dark chocolate", so ideal for someone wanting to get into dark chocolate.
Best blonde chocolate Easter egg - Waitrose
No.1 The Chocolate Croissant Easter Egg
Ok, if you've been anywhere near TikTok in the last few months, you'll have definitely seen Waitrose's Chocolate Croissant Easter Egg, that's made from blonde chocolate and shaped as our favourite pastry. It's got crunchy pieces of biscuit in the chocolate and is finished with a drizzle of milk chocolate. It's on the more expensive end at £15, but Good Housekeeping rated it their favourite, with a score of 82/100 and called it "fun" and "delicious".
Exceptional by ASDA Hazelnut & Blonde Chocolate Egg
ASDA also do a blonde Easter egg, which has added crunchy hazelnut pieces, and sea salt, which GH said gives the egg a "pronounced salty hit". They rated it a 76/100.
Ok, maybe the Easter Bunny can just bring us all of them this year?
