Watch bear crash into snowboarder on Lake Tahoe slope at Heavenly Ski Resort
A video captured the moment a bear crossed a ski run and collided with a snowboarder Sunday, Dec. 8, at Heavenly Resort in Lake Tahoe, California.
Ekalak Lakshana, who was filming himself while snowboarding, posted the video to Instagram, according to Powder magazine. He said on Instagram that he didn’t know the snowboarder who crashed into the bear.
The video, distributed by Maven - Powder via VideoElephant, shows how fast it all happened. But it appears nobody was injured.
“When I saw the bear coming at me, all I could think was, ‘Not today—you’re not catching me!’” Lakshana told Powder.
The video appears to show Lakshana avoid the bear while another rider behind him strikes the animal, and then continues on past Lakshana with a fist bump.
The bear runs away and vanishes into the trees.
On Instagram, a user named “Monster Bathz” posted the video with this caption:
#SundayFunday at Heavenly and it’s a PERFECT day for shredding the slopes. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Boo-Boo came sprinting across the trail—guess he’s on the hunt for Yogi Bear! South Lake Tahoe vibes are unmatched today! Who’s hitting the mountain next?”
Sharing the slopes with bears isn’t uncommon.
Nearly one year ago, on Dec. 10, 2023 — at the same resort — a skier got a surprise when a bear appeared at the edge of the run, and then dashed right across the skier’s path.
