Watch: Camera lost in ocean found by diver eight months later
Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A camera lost in the ocean off the coast of Victoria, Canada, was found by a diver eight months later and returned to its owner, with the videos intact.
Ken Kieley said he and his wife were diving off Ogden Point when he found the GoPro camera about 30 feet below the surface of the water.
He found the camera had taken on some water, but the SD card was intact and was loaded with multiple videos -- including a video of the camera falling off its owner's head and into the water.
"When it landed, it landed face-up and a little while later you can see a crab approach the camera," Kieley told Global News.
Kieley posted some video clips and screenshots from the camera to social media in the hopes of finding its owner, and his post went viral, eventually reaching the camera owner's mother.
Shay Lalor said his mother recognized his voice in one of the video clips.
"She said it sounded a lot like me, it looked a lot like me," he said.
Kieley and Lalor were able to meet up Tuesday to get the camera and SD card back into their owner's hands.
"I thought maybe someone would find it but I thought the chances of me getting it back were pretty slim," Lalor said. "It's shocking, it's amazing, I'm stoked."
