Watch our celebration of parenthood on the Global Day of Parents

For many people, the biggest debt of gratitude they’ll ever owe is to their parents or surrogate parents. The role of a mom or dad is complicated, demanding, and a key part of the nurturing process wherever you live in the world. That’s why the United Nations came up with the idea of a Global Day of Parents.

The U.N. General Assembly declared the first Global Day of Parents in 2012. Since then, it’s been observed annually on June 1st as a celebration of parenthood. The aim is to encourage children to show appreciation for all their parents have done and continue to do for them. At the same time, the day reminds parents of their responsibility towards their kids and the crucial role they play in helping them grow, develop, and thrive.

Like parenthood itself, the Global Day of Parents proceeds without much fanfare. Nonetheless, it’s a day to recognize that parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world.
