Watch Kieran Culkin’s (Second!) Golden Globes Winning Speech In Full
It’s difficult not to feel anything but pure joy for Kieran Culkin when he steps up on an award podium to pick up a prize. Firstly, he always gives good speech and secondly, there’s something of the underdog-done-good about it all: from Macaulay Culkin’s little brother, the bed-wetting Fuller in Home Alone to the toast of Hollywood 30 years later.
And our boy’s done it again. Last night he picked up the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Male Actor for A Real Pain, beating – again, for the second time – his Succession cast mate Jeremy Strong, who was also nominated (the pair were later seen hugging it out though; no bitter Roy rivalry going on off-stage here).
Covered in fake cartoon arm tattoos and bracelets given to him by his kids, he delivered a swift, self-deprecating speech that’s becoming his signature move; he talked about doing shots with Saved By The Bell’s Mario Lopez, thanked his wife (whom he sweetly clearly adores – he mentioned her three times), then announced to the world that he’s currently deep into some therapy (“It’s a lot of work!”).
Give it up for our candid king, here’s that speech in full:
“Oh man, oh thanks. This is incredible. I’m feeling a little…my wife and I did a shot of tequila with Mario Lopez. Definitely feeling that; the whole speech is gone. Rip it Kieran, you’re doing fine! I love the Golden Globes. The first ever acknowledgement I got as an actor was a Golden Globe nomination when I was basically a kid and that meant a lot so this has a special place.
“And now it’s like the best date night that my wife and I ever have, so thanks Golden Globe people, you guys are nuts! In the best way, keep doing what you’re doing. I’m here because Jesse Eisenberg wrote an incredible script, he’s a fantastic director and scene partner so anybody who has an opportunity to work with him in any category just leapt at it, thank you sir.
“I know, please wrap up, a couple quick thank yous and I’ll piss off… “Em, Dave and Ally at Fruit Tree, everyone at Searchlight, you guys are amazing. Nicole Caruso, you rule, and my gorgeous wife of course, thank you for putting up with what you call my ‘mania’. I’m working on it, I have a therapist now, it’s fine. It’s not fine, it’s a lot of work, we’ll see where that goes. Then last but not least, my manager of 30 years, Emily Gerson Saines, this is all because of you, I love you, this is yours, thank you. And I love you mom! Bye!”
