With the holiday party season underway, many of us are stocking our vanity with new baubles for the season, and nobody does a jewelry box refresh quite like the royals. Case in point: Queen Mary of Denmark recently added a new tiara to her collection, one with a very special pedigree.

The piece, which was unveiled in a duo of posts to the royal palace's Instagram last week, called the Rosenstensdiademet or the Rosenstone Diadem is, in fact, crafted from a set of gems from the Danish crown jewels.

Per the translation, the caption on the video reveals the gemstones history, explaining, "The rose stone set was created in 1840 as a chain that is mounted around a corseted waist with the large pendant, the corsage, in the middle. The pendant can be divided and used separately as independent brooches."

The caption adds, "The Danish queens have, through major and minor changes, each one of them, left their mark on the historical crown jewels. With changes in locks and by new ways of combination, the jewelry sets have been updated and thus made their own - always with respect to history and out of a desire to increase the usability of the jewelry sets."

While Queen Margrethe, who abdicated this January, occasionally wore the stones configured as a necklace, as it's first displayed in the video, the piece wasn't often seen during her reign. As the video shows, the new setting was designed with input from Mary by jeweler Matias Hasbo Dinesen and features a minimalist bandeau style with the famous diamonds mounted in row—a nod to their original setting as a waist piece.

In a second post about the tiara, the palace further explained that the new diadem will feature the stones with a closed backing, in keeping with the 1840s style, meaning that the gems will reflect less light than an open-backed set.

In addition to images of the new setting itself, the post also features several snaps of Mary working with artisans on the design and trying on the tiara, as well as a historical portrait of Queen Louise, wife of Denmark's King Frederick VIII, who was the last to wear the diamonds in their original chain setting.

Following the unveiling of Mary's new tiara on social media, the Queen of Denmark made her debut in the diadem at a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on December 6.
