What to Watch the Week of Thanksgiving: Parades, Saltburn , and Taylor Swift Night on Dancing with the Stars

It's Taylor Swift's world, and we all live in it, especially the week of Thanksgiving, when ABC/Disney+ broadcasts “Taylor Swift Night” on Dancing with the Stars.

Taylor is no stranger to Dancing with the Stars, having sung on the dancing competition series several times over the years (check out baby Taylor below!), but as of now, she won't actually be on Tuesday's tribute show. She's scheduled to perform in São Paolo, Brazil on Friday, November 24 so it's unlikely she'll make the trip to Los Angeles to see the six remaining couples dance to her iconic hits. But might she make an appearance by way of record videos throughout the show? It's a possibility.

Taylor Swift premiered the song "Jump, Then Fall," on the Dancing with the Stars results show in season nine.

Then on Wednesday, NBC gets a head start on their Thanksgiving programming with a look ahead at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as SNL's best Thanksgiving skits. It's a big week for the network, because for the first time, the Thanksgiving Day Parade will start 30 minutes earlier, at 8:30 a.m. ET instead of at 9 a.m. The parade, which begins on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and ends at Macy’s Herald Square flagship, will also be simulcast on Peacock.

After the parade—if you're like me—my Thanksgiving day viewing goes something like this: Friends Thanksgiving-themed episodes, Home Alone, and football. But perhaps it's time to make a new tradition, and it's all thanks to the success of The Golden Bachelor. ABC will re-broadcast the first three episodes of the season on Thanksgiving night just in time for next week's two-hour finale. To be honest, they should have just given Susan her own Thanksgiving cooking show with Kathy as her co-host, but no one asked me (though maybe they should have).

On Friday, the finale of the terrific Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV+ airs, and allow me to say it again: if you haven't watched this show, do it now. Friday is also Black Friday, and since Lessons in Chemistry will no doubt make you hungry, then you're in luck, because our Hanukkah gift guide features some delicious treats (the best lox and bagels you'll ever have) that ship nationwide.

To close out the week, Sarah Ramos stars in Christmas in Notting Hill, and Teri Hatcher stars in Christmas at the Chalet on Lifetime, which are the perfect movies to kick off the winter rom-com season.

On that note, I'll see you back here next week for a preview of The Golden Bachelor finale and Virgin River's holiday episodes. In the meantime, happy and safe Thanksgiving to all!

Sunday, November 19

Planes, Trains and Christmas Trees (Lifetime): During a business trip to Indiana, event planner Kayley (Kathryn Davis) and sports agent Brett (Olivier Renaud) can't fly home for Christmas due to a terrible snowstorm. Determined to get back to New York by Christmas Eve (funny, usually it's the big city that people want to get away from in these holiday movies), the two team up and try to make their own way home, but when the storm hits, they’re ‘forced’ to camp out in the sleepy town of Redwood, Ohio. Of course, it's there that ignites some much-needed Christmas magic in their hearts. 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT

Periodical (MSNBC): This feature documentary from director Lina Lyte Plioplyte explores the marvel and mystery of the menstrual cycle, from first period to last. But this is not your middle school sex-ed class. Soccer champ Megan Rapinoe reveals how members of the U.S. Soccer team track their cycles when training for the Women’s World Cup; scientists examine stem cells found in period blood; young activists flip the bill on period tax one state at a time; and Naomi Watts, Gloria Steinem, and more talk about menopause and the importance of being honest about one's cycle. Per the press release, Periodical is for everyone who wants to know more about the menstrual cycle, and especially those who don’t. 10 p.m. ET and streaming the next day on Peacock

It ends up being the strangest but most rewarding bucket list ever. Streaming

Fargo (FX): The fifth season premieres today and is set in Minnesota and North Dakota in 2019. It follows seemingly typical Midwestern housewife Dorothy “Dot” Lyon (Ted Lasso's Juno Temple) after an unexpected series of events lands her in hot water with the authorities. Jon Hamm, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, Richa Moorjani, David Rysdahl, Sam Spruell, and Dave Foley also star. 10 p.m. ET/PT and available to stream the next day on Hulu

Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Carey Mulligan. Here's the lowdown: Oliver Quick (Keoghan) is a student at Oxford University struggling to find his place, so when the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Elordi) invites him to his eccentric family's sprawling estate called Saltburn, it turns into a summer he'll never forget. In theaters

The Velveteen Rabbit (Apple TV+): Based on the classic children’s book by Margery Williams, this 40-minute special stars Helena Bonham Carter, Nicola Coughlan, and more. It's about a seven-year-old boy who receives a new favorite toy for Christmas, and as a result, discovers a lifelong friend and unlocks a world of magic. Streaming

Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix): In this 10-episode series (rolling out weekly), 456 real players will enter the competition show in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million. As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show—plus surprising new additions—their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them. Countdown to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (NBC): If you can't wait until the actual parade on Thanksgiving morning, then this special is for you. A Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving Special (NBC): Once you're done watching the stories of how the parade floats come together, settle in for some late night laughs as the network highlights SNL's best Thanksgiving-themed sketches from the past 47 years. 9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT and streaming the next day on Peacock

Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 23

The Thanksgiving Day Parade (CBS): CBS will also broadcast the iconic Thanksgiving Day parade along Sixth Avenue. This year’s special will take viewers on a tour of the most popular balloons and floats, feature musical performances, and conclude with Santa Claus riding on his sleigh. 9 a.m. ET/PT

National Dog Show Presented by Purina (NBC/Peacock): The Thanksgiving Day tradition is once again hosted by Seinfeld vet John O’Hurley, along with expert analyst David Frei. Mary Carillo serves as behind-the-scenes reporter and interviewer, in which the canines are truly the stars of the show. 12 p.m. ET/PT

Catch Me if You Claus (Hallmark Channel): Italia Ricci and Luke Macfarlane star in this new Hallmark film that's like Adventures in Babysitting meets ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. 8 p.m. ET/PT

The Golden Bachelor (ABC): You'll still have to wait another week for the two-hour finale, but if you can't get enough of Kathy, Susan, Faith, Theresa, Leslie, Sandra, and more, then tune in for a rebroadcast of the first three episodes of the seasons.

Here's the breakdown: At 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT, episode 101 will air, in which Gerry meets 22 women competing for his heart, and we'll get the chance to remember all the ladies eliminated on night one who we forgot about. Then, at 9:01 p.m. ET/PT, 8:01 p.m. CT, episode 102 airs, which features Theresa's one-on-one date in which she and Gerry barely made it off the freeway on the way to their milkshake and fries dinner. Finally, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. CT, episode 103 airs, in which Joan and Gerry have that amazing date, only to find themselves both heartbroken the next day when she understandably decides to return home to care for her daughter.

But on a lighter note, here's a look at this season's bloopers again, and honestly, more of this please:

Julia (Max): Episode four in the spectacular season two premieres today and is titled “Chocolate Mousse.” (I'm in.) Now that Julia is back in Boston, she faces pushback from disheartened WGBH staff. And if that's not all, there's an unexpected encounter with a member of the FBI in the episode written by Natalia Temesgen and directed by Jenee LeMarque. Sounds like someone might want to go back to Paris. Streaming

Julia might have second thoughts about returning to Boston once she sees what awaits her upon her return.
