Waterfront restaurant on Lake Murray to close for ‘extensive renovations.’ What to know
One of Lake Murray’s longtime staples for waterfront dining is set to begin a months-long closure to undergo “extensive renovations.”
The Irmo-area location of Liberty Tap Room & Grill, also known as Liberty on the Lake, will close Jan. 5. Announcements posted to the restaurant’s website and social media state that the eatery, located amid the docks at the Lake Murray Marina at Marina Bay, will remain closed through early spring 2025.
The Liberty location, opened in 2013, is part of a dwindling South Carolina-based chain of modern American bars and eateries focused on a broad selection of craft beer and expansive menus featuring pizzas, salads, burgers, steaks and “house favorites” such as Hawaiian chicken and sweet bourbon glazed salmon.
The Columbia location of the chain in the downtown Vista neighborhood announced in August that it would change concepts to become the still forthcoming Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina. That swap came after the Columbia restaurant initially announced in July that it would close for “extensive renovations” and reopen in the fall.
While its footprint has been wider in the past, the Liberty brand still has one other location outside the Midlands in Myrtle Beach.
Taco Mundo and Liberty are both owned by Charleston’s Homegrown Hospitality Group, which operates two other concepts in the Vista: the dessert bar Kaminsky’s and Pearlz Oyster Bar.
