We put the biggest brand names to the test against Amazon: Find out where to score the best deals
There are some pretty major brand names available on Amazon that you can find in retailers across the country, but when is it in your best interest to shop from the world’s biggest marketplace rather than directly from the label itself?
We took a look at seven fashion brands to compare prices across different categories to find out where you’re really getting the best deals. Although prices vary by item, we chose basic pieces that are available on both sites, and excluded any kind of promotions to see where you can save big.

Michael Kors Access Sofie Heart Rate Touchscreen Smartwatch
Michael Kors: $495
Amazon: $488
Despite being the exact same women’s timepiece, on Amazon there’s a savings of a few dollars for this smart watch. One extra advantage for Amazon is the quick delivery time for Prime members, who qualify for free four day shipping, while Michael Kors’ free delivery ranges anywhere from 2-7 business days. Advantage, Amazon.

Coach: $375
Amazon: $343
Although it looks like you’re getting a significant savings from Amazon on this one, there’s also an added $30 shipping fee from the seller that brings the total up to $373.
Levi's Men's 501 Original Fit Jean
Levi’s: $70
Amazon: $89
For this exact same pair of stone washed 501 jeans, the clear winner is Levi’s. Both retailers have the same size selection, so you’re better off shopping through the original retailer to save on denim.
Adidas Originals Stan Smith Shoes
Adidas: $110
Amazon: $110
These classic unisex sneakers sneakers won’t be going out of style any time soon, which may be the reason why the price is exactly the same on both sites. There’s good news that may just push the Adidas site ahead if you happen to live in the GTA though: your order is eligible for same-day shipping if you buy before 10 a.m. on weekdays.
Hanes Women's X-Temp V-Neck Tee
Hanes: $14
Amazon: $9
This comfortable V-neck is Amazon’s no.1 best-seller for women’s tees, and for good reason. With an under $10 price that’s perfect for everyday wear, you’ll want to pick up more than just one. Amazon’s everyday price definitely beats Hanes’ but keep an eye out for promos (like the one on now) that frequently bring the price down by 50 per cent on the Hanes website.

Amazon: $26-$32
Yes, you’re definitely getting a better price on this comfy wardrobe staple shopping through Amazon, but take note that depending on what size or colour you’re looking for, the price does differ.
Ray-Ban RB2140 Original Wayfarer Sunglasses
Ray-Ban: $193-$213
Amazon: $126-$264
There’s a slight price savings on Amazon, but their real advantage is the huge selection of unique colour choices on these classic Wayfarers. Compared to shopping directly through Ray-Ban which only has four colours options, Amazon has a much greater selection to choose from.
