Why Emma Stone Playfully Teased Taylor Swift at the 2024 Golden Globes

Emma Stone was in a playful mood at the 2024 Golden Globes, where she won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her work in Poor Things. Backstage in the press room after her victory, Stone joked about her longtime friend Taylor Swift to journalists, using a little sarcasm to liven up the room. Stone had been asked about Swift’s support of her that night.

“What an asshole, am I right?” Stone quipped. “I’ve known her for almost 20 years, so I’m very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight, so I’m very happy she was there—but what an asshole.”

Swift was filmed standing and applauding enthusiastically when Stone won her award earlier that evening. She and Stone did not get a photo together during the ceremony broadcast.

Stone actually spoke earlier this month about how far back their friendship went. She said on a January 1 episode of The Graham Norton Show that she and Swift first connected “at the Young Hollywood Awards when [Swift] was 18 in L.A. We just kept in touch ever since and became great friends.”

Swift recently showed extra support of Stone when she attended a screening of Poor Things in New York City on December 6.

Stone attended Swift’s Eras Tour and spoke glowingly about the experience over the summer. “The concert was pretty amazing,” Stone told Vanity Fair then. “I was lucky ‘cause we’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ‘cause I know those tickets are impossible to get. She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind. I mean, the amount of transparent stamina to do three and a half hours and perform 44 songs and to maintain the extreme energy of the audience—I’ve never seen anything like it.”
